Yanni's Concert

As luck would have it, we - my parents and I - managed to book tickets for the Yanni concert, which took place yesterday, good buy indeed :D
The concert took place in Burj Park, in the 'shadow' of the Burj Khalifa and in full view of the fountains.

We got to the venue at 7:15 pm, to be greeted by an enormous queue. Not to mention a whole lot of people who tried to cut in line. The management of the queue, for me, was a big let down. The volunteers seemed to have disappeared elsewhere...this left the management of the lines to a few people who quite literally "Had enough" of the line cutters.
The gates eventually opened at 8 pm, and by 8:45, we were in. Decided to go get seats up front...in the Bronze section of course.

Personally, the Bronze section seemed better than the Gold and Silver sections but paled in comparison to the Platinum section - right in front of the stage.
We were all set with refreshments, waiting in anticipation for the show to begin.

At 10 pm, when the show was slated to begin, I noticed that musicians had begun to place themselves with their instruments.
Typing of which, there was a wide array of instruments: Pianos, a personalised drum kit, other percussion instruments, violins, a trombone, a french horn, a harp, cellos, a keyboard and a base guitar. The musicians themselves were diverse in culture - from Russia, to Cuba and Paraguay.
Yanni then appeared on stage and started off with a composition from his album - Live at the Acropolis. Second best selling album - of all time.
For all of you who aren't familiar with him: Yanni is a Greek musician, real name Yiannis Hrysomallis. A self-taught pianist. "Talented" would be putting it mildly.

Lighthearted, humorous but at the same time passionate about his work, everything showed in his performance. He also got the crowd participating in the songs, by clapping along or cheering for him to come back and perform again.

Amongst the songs performed were: Acroyali, Santorini, Keys to Imagination, One Man's Dream, Felitsa and Nightingale.

The fellow musicians themselves were some of the most talented individuals I have seen. The drummer - Charlie Adams - was energetic, lively and a comedian at heart, taunting the audience when we couldn't keep up with his drumming :P

Then was Alexander Zhiroff, on the cello. Very deep music indeed.

Victor Espinola was on the Harp. I've always associated harps with the more 'angelic' side of things. He blew all that away with an energetic and downright amazing performance.

Then of course, were the violinists, crown jewels of the performance. Armen Movsessian and Ann Marie Simpson. Armen showed pure mastership of the violin, even engaging Ann Marie in a duet-turned-to-duel on stage. Both of them just bought that depth into each composition.

And last but not least [Forgive the hackneyed phrase] was Yanni, who kept jumping around to the music and switching between pianos.

All in all, it was a memorable performance, one that I won't be forgetting for a long time.
Yanni closed the performance with "One Man's Dream", preceded by a short word on his belief in the human spirit. With words of encouragement, to follow dreams and be what you wish to be.

He also mentioned what a loud and receptive audience we had been, hinting that he'd be back next year.

Yanni, Dubai awaits you with open arms :)

Bangalore

The sound of firecrackers can be quite deafening :P

Yes folks, I'm in Bangalore at the moment. Getting here was an arduous feat in itself.
I had to bend over backwards to skip two papers.
Yes, SKIP. You read that right.

Now why would an 11th grader skip her papers?
Was she mad? Crazy? Inconsiderate of the risks involved?
The answer is yes - to the first two.
My wonderful south indian heritage makes weddings a top priority.
And all the uncles, aunties and etc. will unanimously agree on that point.
Hence it was decided that I would skip my chemistry and informatics papers in order to attend my uncle's wedding.
Not like that would affect my average.
Oh, no way.

So here I am, smack in the middle of Diwali - Festival of lights.
A wonderful wedding behind me. Complete with the customs and rituals - not to mention a few shenanigans along the way :D

The sky is alive with crackers, fireworks and thunderstorms.
No harm in nature celebrating the beautiful occasion with us :)
Seems like team India also brought it home for the festival.

See you on the other side,
There's a lot of food that needs 'hogging' :P

Damn

Well, as anyone and everyone might've guessed...I've had no time to update the blog...mostly due to to my procrastination.

Never do today what you can do more than a year later right? :P

Rest assured that I have been writing quite actively.
Unfortunately, most of my recent (and by recent I mean dating to last year) writings have been quite personal, meant for individuals.
Nothing on general events as such...

An update though:
Earlier this year, I participated in a short story writing competition and won 2nd place.
The story is set to be published in the Vision, the school magazine.
Once out, I will definitely post it on the blog irrespective of the circumstances.

Will be posting weekly from now on.
Seriously.

And yes, Science in the 11th year?
Killer.

Uh-oh.....

First of all im sooooo sorry, yup the blog does NOT live up to its name...anyways I either came online but didn't have the urge to update my blog or i wanted to update it but couldnt get the time..oh well. Atleast i have an entire month to do this , so let me start now. To keep you updated on my plays, I've successfully completed The Sensible, Stupid and Downright Ignorant. Then as of now I'm done with the plays Sundar Lal Chaddi Buddy , The Nine Degrees of Insanity and A Seriously Twisted Valentine. Right now I'm working on a play titled 'The Romeo & Juliet of IX-B...what the hell ??'. The wierd part being that im NOT in a co-ed school..but i avoid any 'unneccesary' drama in my plays which always centre around my friends who are an unending source of comical, dramatic and typical teenage inspiration !!
In the coming days I will be updating the 'poem bank' with a few more 'creations'. Again, I want to apologize to all the people who opened up the blog looking for updates and wondering what in the world happened to me..sorry !!!

Shoe shopping

I actually came up with this a few days back but got caught up in packing for a trip to india anyways, I was at Marks and Spencers, shopping for shoes with my mom :-

Shopping for shoes with my mother
I'd rather be doing something other
Good opinions,when I offer some
I am threatened with a glare to keep mum
It turns out so boring
I'd rather be snoring
Different sizes and shapes of shoes
Present in all sorts of hues
But even if its the best collection of the Fall
We'd leave with no purchases at all.

A Wonderful Evening

I just went to my friend's place for a party...AMAZING !! I was in sooo much bliss that I wrote another poem :

Yesterday, was so amazing
I experienced a joy that set my soul blazing
A happiness to be around my closest of friends
Enjoy food whose limits had no ends
Covered in crazy string
Or playing Truth or Dare in a ring
It was so much fun, in every possible way
Thanks so much for such an amazing day
(And I do confess the dancing made me go"Hooray")

Why i keep using "amazing" everywhere i'll never know....

Whoa !!

I just got a call from my best friend telling me that Michael Jackson died.... I took it as an absolute joke ....
Then she told me that the whole thing was playing on TV. I saw the whole thing on CNN... OMG! Was I ever shocked! This is such a huge blow to so many people ! Im watching so many of his fans on tv, I am so shocked..... he was so amazing , his songs have cherished my entire "childhood" , even now.... I AM JUST SOOO SHOCKED !

Here's a poem that just hit me :

The king of Pop
Who danced to each of his songs with a hop
put a certain groove
into his music, that made you move
His famous moonwalk and Thriller
And concerts that were a house-filler
He was amazing and will be missed
For all his songs that always had a twist...

Poetry

Just finished off the reception of my report card when I came up with this :

Tears roll down your face
caused by the marks that were a disgrace
A shocking , shameful proof
that made you feel like a goof
What could've gone wrong
After I spent those hours long
learning word after word
No matter how absurd
Commited it to memory
The cell's periphery,
Newton's derivations of motion,
and so much math it put my brain in a commotion
These papers are reminders to study
even if you've got an early plan with a buddy
These marks can't be changed, true
Upon reading them, you
come to a conclusion
that is no illusion
All I need to do is to understand and practice ,
put my heart into it for what it is
And I know by term two,
I'll have much more to do
But I'll be better , I really will
And see my improved scores with a thrill.

Since I am in a very good mood right now.....I guess I'll share some more :

This came up when the financial crisis just began :

Millions wallow in debt
Over savings for which they wept
On which a close eye Madoff kept
Even while he slept

Many jobs are at stake or lost
All at the cost
Of a cunning man's
Basic and simple plans

This "happened" when I had lunch from a japanese restaurant :

It's a fact
That you make a pact
With such exotic food
That enhances your mood

I have absolutely NO idea what I was thinking of when I came up with this :

In the distance is a cave
A destination for a late night rave
Limestone cutaway, colour of cream
lined by a little stream
Stalagmites and stalacites seem to gleam
When illuminated by a single light beam
It is so quiet in this domain
That it is possible to hear the echo of a single drop of rain.

I also had a fight with my best friend for the most stupidest reason.....felt awful and wrote a poem apologising to her , expressing the fact that i thought i was awful , and writing down how (honestly) amazing she was to put up with me :

I am extremely sorry
from the bottom of my heart
Truth be told, I feel tart
So awful about what I did to you
So bad about what I put you through
I'm guilty as charged, a delinquence
Awaiting the consequence
Of my tempermental reaction
An unneccesary action
I heard you forgive me ;
telling me that we were alright
But i've got to tell you that inspite,
of what you tell me
My conscience wont be free
I want to make it up to you
Tell me what to do,
Get you tons of chocolate , or paint up a wall
No task is too big or small.
I won't stop until I've paid my debt
To someone who cheered me when I wept
To someone as special as you,
Who wants to show the world who I am
Not just an introvert clam.
You are amazing , you really are,
You're my star !

That's about it for now..... or until I find more stuff

Limericks

Hello everybody:

Here are a few limericks I wrote the other day:

There once was a girl who played Tennis
Who to her opponent was a menace
She played an amazing serve
That tended to swerve
And make her opponent grimace

The theses proposed by Lenin
Collectivisation by Stalin
All compiled into History
Which is such a huge mystery
About which my friend is mopin'

The first one came out when I was thinking about one of my best friends (who happens to play tennis) and the second one, when i was studying for my history paper.
